what day is it?
^^literally my first thought as i opened up this blog post. it's raining, i'm getting over a mild fever, and i just really need it to be the weekend, so please don't blame me if i go a little crazy in the next couple of days.
moving on.
last night i had the awesome opportunity to go to dinner with elizabeth smart and byu women's services and resources. elizabeth smart is a young mormon women who was kidnapped, raped, and abused in 2002 when she was only 14 years old. she was held captive for 9 months before finally being rescued in the streets of salt lake city by someone who recognized her from the nation-wide search that had gone on months before. she now speaks about her story and preventing abuse to groups all over the nation.
she was invited to dinner and to speak about the voices of courage campaign against abuse led by wsr, and since i am interning for them this semester, i was lucky to be invited. dinner it was in the skyroom restaurant on campus and we had to dress fancy and i even got to take a 'plus one'! how official is that?
unfortunately, i chickened out and didn't get a picture with elizabeth like i would have loved to. but after dinner we got to sit in reserved seating of the de jong concert hall and listen to her talk about her story. i read her book last week, and it was really great. highly recommended.
and my date was a really good sport about attending an event all about kidnapping and sexual abuse. maybe not the best first date material? i think i'm getting better at this dating stuff, guys. i'm basically professional.
anyways, that's all i have for you today. because i was busy with the event last night, i'm still trying to finish all the homework i have due for my tell class tonight. is it friday yet?
over and out.
Wow! I would have JUMPED to be your plus one ;) I'm dying to read her book and I love the Skyroom. Mmmmm.
