it was a small new year's party, but it was a good one.

well folks, it's resolution time again.
i've been seeing a whole lot of hatin' on the new year's resolution thing lately, and i'd just like to say, i don't agree with most of it. i believe that a new year is the perfect time to try a little harder to be the person that you want to be. yeah, you can and should work to better yourself at all times of the year, but sometimes the change of the last digit in that year stamp is enough motivation to make you think you really can do it. and you can do it! assuming you make realistic resolutions, of course.
so here are my resolutions. i'm typing them up mostly for myself, but i also like the accountability that comes with having them out in the world somewhere.
health:
1. run 300 miles this year! (about 6 miles/week)--the me of a year ago would look at this goal, throw her head back, and laugh. but 2013 brought me running, and i love it, and i want to be better at it. so there. take that, 2013 kylie.
2. run a 10k and a half-marathon--what up, ambitious but still realistic goals?!
3. eat better--i don't care about my weight, but i do care about my health, and i need to start paying a little more attention to what and how much i am eating. not because i want to look any different, but because i want to feel different. so i want to try cooking healthier recipes, and eating less sweets, and drinking less dr. pepper. it's all about moderation.
blog:
1. continue to post 5x/week--i think we've got a good thing going on here, don't you?
2. continue to grow--i'm at the point where i put a lot into this space, and i'm just starting to get something back. i don't intend on being a "famous" blogger, but i would love to have some real sponsors on here that make my blogging hobby more manageable.
3. never compromise who i am for views--i try really hard to stay open and honest on here and not make it seem like i live a perfectly glamorous life. cause i sooooo do not. and i refuse to write posts that i don't enjoy writing, because that kind of takes the point of blogging away, doesn't it?
other:
1. read from the book of mormon every single day--this is by far the most important goal for the year. i know from experience that everything in life can be going wrong, but if i'm doing this one thing right, i will make it through with a smile on my face.
2. talk to god before making decisions--sometimes i'm good at this, and sometimes i'm not. i just have to remember that he knows better than i do or than any of my friends do in every situation.
3. save enough to buy a nice camera--i think i'm at the point in my life where i want a dslr camera enough to make some sacrifices for it. so i'd like to quit buying so many dang clothes and save my money for a camera instead.
hey you should run a half marathon with me- the thanksgiving point one in april. I have a good half marathon training schedule i can give you too!!
ReplyDeleteReally?? I will have to look that up! I would love to! How do you sign up?

Thank you guys for hosting! I dread the process of getting in shape, but once I'm there, I love the it!
DeleteThese are all great goals sweet friend! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachael! I'm excited for the new year. :)
DeleteYeah, the hating-on-resolutions thing has me bugged. Maybe it's because I've always set resolutions (and I usually actually try to follow through with them), but I totally agree with you---I think people should jump on anything that helps us all to be more motivated to become better human beings.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, btw. I'm your newest follower :)
Exactly! I understand the criticism on just saying some things that sound like great plans, but I'm a very goal-oriented person, and if I actually write something out like this, I'm about 10x more likely to actually do it. So I am all for resolutions!
DeleteAnd thank you for following! I would love to come check your blog out as well. :)
Oh you are inspiring me to write out my goals... I'm thinking I definitely need to follow your lead! And the half marathon goal is looking pretty appealing to me too, so if you get a good schedule you might have to send it my way... :)
ReplyDeleteAre you in Utah? I heard there's a half marathon in April in Thanksgiving Point! I haven't picked a training schedule yet though. I used the C25k and C210k apps when I trained for those, and they have a half marathon app as well. Still considering investing the $10 in it. But I will let you know if I find something good!!
